Q - What does CBT stand for?
A - Compulsory (introduced in December 1990) Basic (Basic and safe riding) Training (Its not a test!!!)

Q - Why do I need to a CBT?
A - Because it will give you the basic skills to be safer on the road and is also needed if you wish to take your full test. Remember a CBT should be enjoyable not something you have to endure. Having a CBT is a legal requirement for riding any motorcycle on the road.

Q - I got my driving license before February 2001, do I still need a CBT?
A - You can ride a moped (up to 50cc) but you cannot go on the motorway. If you wish to ride anything bigger you will require a CBT. If you have not ridden before or have had a substantial break from motorcycling we would still advise that you have some further training before going back out on a motorcycle.

Q - Can I use a foreign licence to take a CBT?
A - I'm afraid not, you cannot train in the UK without the correct licence. You must either obtain a UK provisional, or if you hold an EU licence, obtain a UK counterpart licence.

Q - What if I fail my CBT?
A - Remember the CBT is not a test, so you cannot fail. If at the end of your CBT you or your instructor do not feel you are safe and confident on the road, you can come back another day and have a maximum of a 2 hour lesson for free. If after this you are not ready to be on the road on your own, we charge our standard lesson rate of £40 per two hours.

Q - Will I be doing my CBT with lots of other students?
A - No. There will be a maximum of two students per CBT.

Q - I can't afford motorcycle clothing what should I wear?
A - We always recommend motorcycle clothing but we understand not everyone can afford it. A warm sturdy jacket, thick trousers or jeans, boots and a pair of gloves would be a suggested minimum. Please remember we can lend you jackets helmets and gloves for your training. Remember always stay warm and dry! Please note that if you turn up inapprorpriately dressed (for example in shorts, open toed shoes, etc) your instructor may not be able to take you on the road. This is for your own safety.

Q - I have never ridden before will this be a problem?
A - Nothing is a problem here at Flying Colours, we will teach you to be safe and competent on today's roads, remember a CBT is designed to teach someone with no experience to ride.

Q - Do I need a theory test to do my CBT?
A - No, but you will need to take your theory test if you wish to take your full test.

Q - What happens if I damage the bike or any equipment?
A - We offer an optional insurance of £10 for CBTs or £25 for Intensive courses. This will cover you in the event of any damage. If this insurance has not been paid for at the beginning of your session, you will be liable for the costs of any damage. See our terms and conditions for more information.
